It has been one year. One year ago March that we headed to Napa Valley California.
It was our first time visiting the West Coast and to say we were excited would be more than an understatement! The official destination was Napa, so after a short stay in San Francisco (we must go back) we headed over the Golden Gate Bridge towards Calistoga & Napa Valley.
That’s where we started tasting our way through high-quality craft wines and beautiful vintages.
Since it has been a year and we can’t make a trip out there again for a little while, we decided we needed to relive our journey by breaking into some of our haul from that terrific trip… And hey what a great time to share my website that we have been working on for some time with the rest of the world. I think you’ll love it & want to share it with any wine & food lovers out there. We have a lot of exciting things to share!
While looking over the wines in our collection which were from several different producers I realized that the majority of our vino happened to be Petit Sirah. I decided to hold off opening a Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon and went to my collection of Petit Sirahs and finally made a choice as to which vino we would indulge in.
The first bottle opened was from Olabisi wines. Olabisi is located in beautiful downtown Calistoga. Their limited production of handcrafted, one-of-a-kind wines are from incredible vineyards tended to by local farmers with truly amazing talent. I vividly remember sipping wines presented by a knowledgeable & welcoming hostess who gave us insight into their crafts and wine-making. To learn more detailed info click the link to their website at Olabisi wines.
What we opened First:
Olabisi, Petit Sirah, 2008
Suisun Valley, Kings Vineyard.
Dark purple and gorgeous it resembled liquid velvet if that were an actual thing.
On the NOSE was black fruit, oak, smoke, sage and berries.
On the palate, it was dry with tight tannins, yet smooth and balanced with ripe berries and a beautiful finish.
This wine made us dream of that next trip back to that glorious world of wine.
Until then, please stay with us on our revisiting of California wine country by tasting our way through the wines that made the trip back with us.
Oh, if only we could have brought home all of the wines that we fell in love with..
Until we uncork our next treasure, happy sipping!
